Dean Harrison took the vacant British Masters light welterweight title at the Civic Hall on November 9th after a left shoulder injury forced Chris Long to retire after eight completed rounds. In what ended up being the final round Dean landed several effective punches as Long slowed. Chris managed to land a straight right, right uppercut and left hook but at the bell motioned to his corner that something was wrong and pulled out allowing referee Shaun Messer to crown Harrison the victor and new champion.
Robert Norton, the current British Cruiserweight Champion, presented Dean with the International British Masters belt in the ring. |

Wolverhampton’s Dean Harrison will fight for the British Masters belt at the ‘Crunchtime at Lunchtime’ bill on Sunday 9th November.
The Scot will meet Chris Long for the vacant crown at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall, in his first fight since losing a points decision for the English title against Scott Haywood in Nottingham in September. Harrison was “gutted” to lose the decision and a tilt at the British Masters title is a prompt response but he faces a tough opponent in Long.

STEFY Bull produced a superb performance in his first fight for almost a year but his hopes of landing a title at a third different weight were dashed as he suffered a narrow points defeat to Graeme Higginson.
The ten rounder for the British Masters light welterweight title was a highly competitive contest with several of the early rounds hard to call, but a strong middle third of the fight for Higginson landed him the referee's decision 97-95 despite a strong late rally from Bull. The 31-year-old southpaw was having only his second fight since suffering a humiliating three rounds defeat to Amir Khan almost 18 months ago. He was fighting at light welterweight for the first time after winning Central Area titles at lightweight and featherweight. Twenty-six-year-old Higginson looked the stronger man and built up a lead in the early rounds although there was little to choose between the boxers and some os the rounds were almost too close to call.
Bull fought back in the latter stages of the contest and produced a courageous display to win the last round but it was not enough as top referee Mickey Vann raised Higginson's hand at the finish. |
