Peterborough Brothers To Run for their Country
Thursday, 30 October 2008
Tony Gray has won the Northern Ireland masters for the fifth time and will represent his country in the British Masters Home International Cross-Country in Swansea on 15th November, and his younger brother Pete has also made the team. It will be the first time the brothers have run together for their country as Tony was injured last year when Pete made his international debut. Tony, who turns 64 next month, was second in the Over 60 category while Pete – who made his debut in the Over 50 team last year – was runner-up in the Over 55 age group.

"I'm delighted that we've both made it," said Tony. "Pete and I have been training very hard for this. We've been killing ourselves in training but it's all been worthwhile now that we've made the team. "We knew we had to finish in the first four in our age groups in the trial and it was on a tough course – hilly, hard and mucky – but we ran well and we're in the team again." Nene Valley Harrier Stan Owen will also be in the England team in the Over 55 age group, his 10th appearance for England but his first in the Over 55 age group. Owen's best position in the masters international was third place as an Over 40 but he has never been outside the top seven.
