Cockermouth Swimming Club’s Helen Asquith proved that good things come to those that wait as she returned home from the British Masters Championships in Sheffield with two gold and two silver medals.
In her first event, the 100m back, she showed her intentions for the day. Turning fourth she powered through to second in 68.94, just 0.37 of a second off first and a fraction outside her lifetime best.
In the next event, the 100m fly, she produced a time of 65.89 seconds to finish second having again powered her way past other competitors.
With no time to rest she immediately went into the 200 back and wowed the crowd with a lifetime best of 2.25.52, coming home nearly four seconds ahead of the field and the fastest time of the day for the event and her first national title.
Next she entered her favourite event, the 200m fly, and Asquith powered through the 100m mark two and a half seconds ahead of the field and finished over 4.5 seconds ahead of her nearest rival and again in the fastest time of the day for the event.
